Jim Gillis is an associate with the firm of Parker, Kern, Nard & Wenzel with a practice emphasis in Workers' Compensation defense.
He grew up in British Columbia, Canada and obtained his citizenship following a tour of duty in Vietnam. The movie Hamburger Hill was based on an incident involving Jim’s Battalion while serving with the 101st Airborne Division.
Family life is important to him, which of course includes his wife, 6 children and 8 grandchildren.
While a police officer, among the cases he worked on include the Dorthea Puente multiple murder case as well as finding the pivotal evidence used to identify the I-5 Strangler. While practicing as a sole practitioner, a death penalty case he handled made nationwide attention including an article in Life Magazine.
While practicing as a deputy district attorney, Jim handled over 20 jury trials for various felony and misdemeanor criminal offenses, numerous preliminary and evidentiary hearing and negotiated settlements in approximately 1000 criminal cases.
Mr. Gillis has co-written a comprehensive workers’ compensation database program in addition to writing a rating program under both the old PD system and the AMA guides.
Jim considers practicing law his second career, having spent 18 ½ years in law enforcement prior to graduation from law school. He is an avid bicyclist and golfer. Additional interests include photography, music of all kinds and computers. |
